On top of the art world in Box Hill

Jul 26, 2012
SELF-TAUGHT painter Claire McCall has brushed aside other artists to win an internationally contested prize.

The Box Hill resident was awarded the Cliftons Art Prize for Melbourne from among more than 620 international artists in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore, for her painting, Window of Youth.

Mrs McCall said the art contest was a great chance to get more exposure to a new audience and will hopefully "open up a few doors".

Self-taught artist Claire McCall has won the prestigious Cliftons Art Prize.
Formerly in the cosmetics industry, Mrs McCall took to art about nine years ago to give her flexibility after having children.

She said winning the prize proved her hard work studying and watching tutorials had been worth it.

"Being a self-taught artist it gives me a lot of confidence to have been selected by such a strong panel of judges and gives me a lot of encouragement for the future," she said.
