What Gabriel Orozco meant by "Carta Blanca" is anyone's guess. It consists of a broad, rectangular area of sand about six inches deep studded with rusty tin cans of various sizes and shapes, each bearing a new, red, white and gold label for Carta Blanca, a Mexican beer. Its seemingly offhand formal beauty is matched by its understated, Dada-ish poetry. Photo: Hessel Museum of Art, Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College
